A Host of Special Guests Join Downchild for Celebrations
In celebration of their 40th anniversary, the legendary Downchild kicks off a Canadian tour in October, performing with a stellar cast of special guests along the way.
On Saturday, October 10th, Downchild launches the tour in Nanaimo, B.C. at the Port Hope Theatre, performing in concert with featured guest Colin Linden. Linden will continue to tour with the band in the western provinces as well as in Ontario, where there is a three-night extravaganza of concerts featuring Dan Aykroyd and guests including James Cotton, Wayne Jackson of the Memphis Horns, Ricky Paquette, Bob Walsh, and Jonas and Nanette Workman, among them.
It was 40 years ago that brothers Donnie and Hock Walsh formed the group that became a household name and was the inspiration for the iconic Blues Brothers. The Downchild Blues Band (known as Downchild since the early ’80s) remains a blues force around the globe, continuing to perform and receiving accolades along the way.
To further mark their anniversary celebration in Nanaimo, Downchild is offering a young blues musician an opportunity to perform one song with them live on stage at the Port Theatre event.
The contest is open to those 20 years old or younger, who have the blues in their soul, a desire to pursue a career as a blues artist, and have previous experience performing before a live audience.
To enter, contestants should make a short video (5 min max) in a solo or group performance, then upload the video to the Port Theatre Fan Club before Monday, September 28th.
A panel of blues experts will view all contestant’s video submissions and choose five finalists to perform at a live judging at The Blues Underground in Nanaimo on October 2, when the winner will be chosen.
