Calgary Ensemble Features Local Music Greats

Calgary based Prime Time Big Band celebrates their 15th Anniversary with Fall Into Swing, a dinner and dance at the Beth Tzedec Synagogue Ballroom on Saturday, October 31.

Prime Time is Calgary’s longest-running Big Band and has a strong following in its native city and beyond. Led by trumpeter Dave Jones, the ensemble features the bountiful talents of Calgary music veterans such as Eric Friedenberg (saxophone, flute), Al Muirhead (trumpet), Pat Belliveau (saxophone), Derek Stoll (piano), Kai Poscenti (bass) and Keith Smith (guitar). Vocalist Shari Chaskin joins the group to lend her powerful voice on several songs.

Over the past 15 years the group has built an impressive repertoire of more than 400 arrangements in a wide range of styles from Big Band to Bebop, Pop to Rock & Roll, while their debut CD, For My Friends, continues to receive airplay across the nation.

Appearing every second Saturday for the Ironwood Stage’s Big Band Brunch, the group unfailingly draws a full house. Prime Time is also noted for its collaborative concert performances with giants in Canadian music, the most recent being an appearance with legendary jazz pianist Oliver Jones on April 2nd at the Jack Singer Concert Hall.
