Nominations for Maple Blues Awards Announced

Submit your votes for your favourite artists for The Maple Blues Awards. Online voting began on Friday, Oct. 30, with nominees in eight different categories. Cast your votes at http://www.mapleblues.ca/register.aspx before Sunday, Dec. 13 at noon.

The 13th annual Maple Blues Awards honour the shining stars in blues. Winners will be announced at a gala on Jan. 18, 2010 at Koerner Hall in Toronto. The event will be hosted by veteran bluesmen David Gogo and Danny Marks. Slated to perform are the Maple Blues Band, formed by award winners and nominees.

Leading with six Maple Blues nominations are Ottawa based boogie masters Monkey Junk, closely followed by Vancouver’s The Twister, the jump blues band with five nominations. Both groups are nominated for Recording of the Year.

Toronto’s Downchild Blues Band, who are currently celebrating their 40th anniversary as a unit, have band members nominated for four awards, while Hamilton’s Harrison Kennedy also received four nominations.

Coming in with three nominations is Whitby Ontario guitar great Jack de Keyzer.
