Musicians Perform Fundraising Concert for Veteran’s Food Bank

Calgary’s music community is gathering to perform for a fundraising concert in a salute to Canadian troops overseas and their families here at home.

Headlining ‘A Musical Kickoff to Christmas’ are three of Calgary’s leading vocalists, Sherry Kennedy, Deanna Dubbin and Cindy McLeod, who bring their distinct talents to an evening of jazz, blues, show tunes and more.

The events kicks off Sunday, Nov. 22 at 5:00pm with cocktails and a silent auction, followed by dinner at 5:30pm and concert at 7:00pm. The event is being held in a bid to raise awareness of and funds for, the Veterans Food Bank and Military Families Resource Centre.

Slated to host is CBC Radio’s Russell Bowers, whose program ‘Daybreak’ can be heard across Alberta weekend mornings.

Some of the city’s finest musicians will accompany the singers, including Brad Steckel (guitar), Derek Stoll (piano), Kai Poscente (bass), Steve Foster (drums), Pat Belliveau (saxophone), Bob Erlendson (piano), Simon Fisk (bass) and Tyler Hornby (drums). Special guest appearances will be made by the daughter/father vocal duo, Irene and Dan Sommerville, and the Sherry Kennedy Singers.

‘A Musical Kickoff to Christmas’ takes place at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #264 in Calgary. Donations of food, cash and new toys & gifts will be gratefully accepted at the door.
