Album Marks Rutherford’s Debut as Solo Artist

Blues & roots singer/songwriter John Rutherford embarks on a regional tour next week, appearing across his home province of Alberta in January and then again in March. The tour marks the release of Rutherford’s new CD, Echo Broadcast.

Rutherford’s debut outing as a solo artist, Echo Broadcast, features ten original songs performed by the guitarist/singer along with his take on Roy Book Binder’s Preacher Picked the Guitar. Also collaborating on the album are Chris Dadge (drums, percussion), Scott Munro (bass), Cedric Blary (clarinet) and Lorrie Matheson (piano, organ). The CD was produced by Calgary musician Lorrie Matheson and recorded at Mathieson’s Arch Audio.

Aside from Rutherford’s solo work, he also keeps a busy calendar with the Highwater Jug Band, an all-star roots collective with Tim Williams, Suitcase James, Mark Sadlier-Brown and Cedric Blary. In Febraury & March he hits the road with songwriter John Wort Hannam for an ACE Communities tour in Northern Alberta.

Other performing/recording credits include No Guff, the acoustic duo with guitarist Dan Tapanila, as well as Calgary blues great Bill Dowey, Fort McLeod songwriter John Wort Hannam and with the critically acclaimed Edmonton based collective “Front Porch Roots Revue.” Rutherford has opened shows for John Hammond, David Wilcox, Johnny Winter, Neville Brothers, Buddy Guy, Charlie Musslewhite, Omar and the Howlers, and has shared the stage with innumerable blues, roots and folk greats during festival workshop sessions.
