Bluesman Mike Clark officially releases his long-awaited new album, Porch Songs (Independent), on April 2 & 3 at his popular Calgary club, Mikey’s Juke Joint and Eatery.
One of the city’s most in-demand blues saxophone players, Clark shows off his multi-dimensional skills on the album, performing on tenor sax, flute, guitar, percussion and vocals as well as penning ten of the 12 tunes found on the album. Filling out the sound are Brent Wright (guitar), Brian Pollack (bass), Thom Moon (drums) and Steve Pineo, whose guitar and background vocals can be heard on select tracks. Porch Songs was recorded at Calgary’s Airwaves Studios and produced by Mike Clark and Danny Patton.
When interviewed, Mike says it’s “life” and the passage of time that inspired the album, “lots has changed in my life, lots of friends and family have passed to early…time moves on…new career, I think this album refects the that time moves on…some of the tunes are very personal…some are just fun…so I guess life has provided the inspiration for this one.”
Mike Clark is recognized as one of Canada’s top saxophone players, having been nominated three years running for Maple Blues Horn Player of the Year. An in-demand studio player and sideman in a variety of settings, Clark has also lead his own group for nearly two decades and released his critically acclaimed debut CD, Clarkology, in 2005.
