“It’s Time” for Grammy Award Winning Artist

Calgary based blues singer and drummer Donald Ray Johnson releases his latest album, It’s Time this weekend, December 3 & 4, at Calgary’s newest blues venue, the Blues Can.

Featuring Donald Ray’s rich and powerful baritone voice and his solid, crisp drum chops, It’s Time is a collection of originals and blues classics performed by a blend of Calgary greats including long-time compatriots Mike Huston, Ron Casat and Bill Eaglesham, as well a host of guests including Russell Broom, Ralph Moncivais and Gaspard Ossekian.

One of the nation’s finest and most decorated blues musicians, Texas born Donald Ray has made Calgary his home for the past twenty plus years. With a career spanning more than four decades, Donald Ray has created a catalogue of top drawer recordings and captured numerous accolades and honours along the way, not the least of which is a Grammy Award for Best New Artist (1979) while with A Taste of Honey, as well as being voted Best Male Vocalist (2007) by Real Blues Magazine, twice nominated for Maple Blues Awards, and capturing the CBMA Blues Hall of Fame’s Drummer of the Year and Singer of the Year awards for 2009 and 2010.

Donald has toured across North America and Europe as leader of his own group as well as performing/recording with such Blues and R&B luminaries as Phillip Walker, Big Mama Thornton, Smokey Wilson, Teddy Pendergrass, and The Isley Brothers.
